How can you keep perspective without being narrow minded? Since both terms define a point of view both can be used interchangeably. However, they are different when it comes to perseverance in life. Perspective is generally considered positive while being narrow minded is deemed a negative quality. When it comes to the pressures of life , such as rejection, a person can keep perspective without being narrow minded.
Its hard keeping in mind the reason why we do things. We forget about our purpose in life when nothing goes our way, hardships come along, or life just happens. That’s why its important to set aside time to be in silence and spend time with ourself and God. Research has proven that prayer and meditation can drastically change a situation simply because it allows you to recharge and adjust your perspective on the situation. Many times people lose all hope in the purpose of their life because they don’t’ remember to keep their perspective rather they become narrow minded. Some will only see the current situation they are in and at that time believe it to be the end of anything great to happen to them again. They settle for second best or well enough, instead of saying I deserve better than this or that.
A great example is with rejection. Rejection is a part of life and happens to us all, but it’s still an enormous fear for most people. For some people, the fear is so great that they don’t pursue happiness rather they live in fear. My uncle always says “Whatever you accept becomes your standard.” How can we be progressive in life if we never challenge the status quo. If Martin Luther King, Thurgood Marshall, Susan B Anthony or Sojourner Truth didn’t challenge the status quo(after many times of being rejected) we would still be living in antebellum. Black people wouldn’t have their rights and women would be considered second class citizens. This is a prime example of being narrow minded. In order to keep perspective when rejection hits us (because it will happen to everyone at some point in life sometimes on multiple occasions) we have to remember that everything happens for a reason. Maybe the rejection is actually turning you towards a greater destiny than what that particular opportunity could provide.
On the same note, not being narrow minded would require us to believe that there is more than one way to our overall goal. You have to remember that one job or one person or one house or one anything that rejected you does not have authority over you and your life. Only God and you have authority over your life.
Essentially, keeping perspective while not being narrow minded will require us to think outside the box. Many famous and successful people found their success when thinking outside the box after being rejected. Oprah Winfrey was fired from being a reporter during early days of journalism, Wendy Williams didn’t get a job on a show that eventually flopped anyways, Walt Disney whom was rejected many times from jobs (one being for not being creative enough). This shows that eventhough we go through hardships being able to be resilient and keep perspective will pay off in the long run.
Most times our limited perspectives and narrow mindedness are rooted in fear. Fear should not dictate our paths, but rather be the motivation to do something( as long as its in line with common sense, don’t jump off a bridge). If plan A doesn’t work, go to plan B, C, D, E all the way to Z. We just have to remind ourselves that the sky is not the limit! (we already went to space) J
