With the recent election coming up, it’s hard to ignore the likelihood of the United States having its first woman president. Hillary Clinton is the assumed democratic candidate supposing she will win tomorrow’s election in NewYork (her home state) giving her the majority of delegates. However, we cannot forget that she’s the wife that stayed with a cheating husband. Some speculate that she only stayed with him because of her career intentions. Would she have been as successful if she were to have divorced President Bill Clinton? This begs the question of the 21st century, can a woman be successful on her own merit or is she still dependent on the male species for her identity in the workforce?
Recently, entrepreneur Bethenny Frankel made comments at the Project Entrepreneur summit regarding women achieving success in the business industry. She alluded that women cannot make it on their own and that if women want to be successful they should have sex with men in exchange for capital and women, specifically black women, should have white men be the spokesperson for their companies. The Skinny Girl founder and Real Housewife of New York denied she made these comments. Organizers for the summit apologized via Twitter for the offensive comments stating it “was not our intention and is contrary to our goals.”
What do you think? Was this well-intentioned advice to women who want to succeed in a world dominated by men?
